Rules & Strategy
- Objective: get 4 pieces in a row - horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
- No gravity: place pieces anywhere on the board.
- Wrapping: edges connect - rightmost column to leftmost, top row to bottom. Visualising the wrap is the whole skill.
- Strategy: think across edges - a line can wrap around!
- Advanced: every cell has identical connectivity on a torus - there are no corners to hide in.
Origin
Tic-Tac-Torus - formerly "Connect 4 with no gravity and periodic boundary conditions". I first encountered this variant during my summer internship at Oxford's Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics. It was Param Luhadiya and Om Gupta, fellow interns, who introduced me to this ingenious perhaps even sadistic twist on the classic game.
